Sappy, but still going to hell

Sap
So, after listening to aunt_zelda's fanmix for In Space again, I came up with another In Space shortfic idea. This one is a great deal shorter and a great deal sweeter than the last one.

Title: Spun Sugar
Word Count: 960
Pairing(s): MarzGurl/Linkara
Universe: That Guy With The Glasses In SPACE
Warnings: RPF.
-
MarzGurl absentmindedly itched at her arm and frowned. She was waiting for Nostalgia Chick, Bennet and Lee to finish deciding what to do about Sage. Only then could she ask Chick to remove the bracings that helped her to function when they were on a planet with normal gravity.

“Marz? Is something wrong?”

She looked up and smiled. As usual Linkara’s eyes, normally hard and blank, softened as he looked at her.

“Oh, I just, um. I’m just tired and I need Chick to get rid of my bracings before I can sleep. I mean, I would it’s just I can’t really reach some of the places and it’s uncomfortable…”

“If you show me how, I’ll get rid of them for you,” offered Linkara immediately. Marz’s smile, always hesitant, grew warmer.

“Okay.”

She led the way to her bunk. In actuality, it was just a med bay storeroom that had been changed into a bunk so that Marz could sleep and still be in easy reach of her cryo unit if they abruptly went planetside.

The instant the door closed and the lights were on, Marz started to remove her jumpsuit, stripping until she wore just shorts and a singlet. Turning, she saw Linkara had a strange smile on his face.

“What?” she asked, defensively.

“Nothing,” he said, his voice surprisingly soft, “It’s just…I forget.”

“Forget what?” the smile faded slightly.

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Forget what?”

“Show me how to remove your bracings.”

Confused, feeling as if she’d missed something important, Marz turned her back and lifted her singlet, showing the bracings on her back.

“Okay, you see the middle one?”

“Yeah?”

“There’s sort of, um, a button? At the bottom?”

“I see it.”

“So, you push it and pull the middle one out.”

“Right.”

Linkara’s hands were surprisingly warm against her cold skin. Smoothly, carefully, he withdrew the middle bracing from her back, setting it to the side.

“Now you pull the side ones out. Be careful; they might catch on my skin.”

“Okay.”

It seemed to take a long time for him to remove all the bracings. Maybe he was just being more careful than Chick – he didn’t have as much practice as her. But it also seemed as if he touched her more than Chick did, putting a hand gently on her side as he drew one of the long braces out and then only reluctantly removing it to take the next one out.

Soon, all the bracings were gone. Marz was about to lower her shirt, when she felt warm fingers trace their way down her spine. Shivering she held still until Linkara pulled away, letting her shirt drop down into place.

Turning, she sat on her bunk and offered one leg to Linkara.

“Start with the toes and move up,” she ordered. The other immortal nodded, still wearing that strange smile, and started to remove the bracings.

He got to one on the inside of her thigh. He was pulling it off when Marz shifted slightly, knocking his hand – and he pulled it too hard against her flesh.

Letting out a soft cry of pain, Marz shrunk away.

“Sorry,” said Linkara immediately, “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“It’s okay,” said Marz, “Just hurt.”

Linkara set the bracing to the side and Marz froze when he leaned down and gently kissed the skin where the bracing had been. Her face felt hot.

Acting as if nothing had happened, Linkara turned to her other leg and removed the bracings there.

“Now my arms,” said Marz as the last bracing dropped onto the table. Linkara looked up and met her eyes, before immediately looking away, as if uncomfortable. He was still smiling, though.

Marz watched as he removed each bracing on her arms, starting from the shoulders and going down to the fingers. He had just removed the bracing from the last finger when his eyes met hers again.

The world seemed to hang strangely in the air, as if by strings. She smiled at him, hesitantly.

“Linkara…what was it you forgot?” she asked. He still held her hand.

Then, not taking his eyes off hers, he lifted her hand to her lips and gently kissed every gap where a bracing had been.

‘How is it that all he’s kissing are my fingers, but it feels more intimate than when he kissed my leg?’

His lips glided over her wrist, then up her arm, then across her elbow, her shoulder, her collarbone, her neck, up to her ear. All the while, Marz held still, not out of fear (if there was one certainty in her life, it was that Linkara would never deliberately hurt her) but out of indecision.

“What I forgot,” he whispered in her ear, “Was how beautiful you are.”

Marz’s face felt even warmer. She was probably the same shade as a tomato.

“Do you have bracings anywhere else?”

Marz shook her head. Linkara then stood and went to leave.

“Where are you going?”

Slowly, Linkara turned to look at her.

“I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to stay,” and now he sounded uncertain.

“Why wouldn’t I?” she asked.

Linkara stared at her and then slowly smiled a smile that made her heart do something strange and silly in her chest.

Carefully he walked over and sat next to her before gently kissing her forehead, then her nose, then her cheek, then just beneath her jaw…

His lips finally found hers in a kiss that made her skin sing.

“You won’t break me,” she told him when the kiss ended, “I know you won’t. So stay? Please?”

“You only have to say,” he told her gently, brushing a lock of brilliant blue hair out of her eyes, “You only have to say.”

*sniffles* Auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuw!!!

How is it that I'm reading is a het fic, but it makes me feel more squiggly and cuddly and on the verge of tears than most slash fics?

*huggles the cat, then you, then Marz, then Linkara, and then myself*

You are such an amazingly gifted writer. This really shocked me, and I love it, and I've memed it too.

(It's so good to be home ... *stretches back and sighs contentedly* Fantastic fic at the tips of my fingers, a cat on my lap, a laptop at my side, central heating ...)

I blame you for giving me the song 'Spun Sugar' by Beth Waters. It totally inspired this whole fic.

After all the crap I put Marz and Linkara through (and the crap that I am planning to put them through) they deserve all the huggles they can get. *huggles Marz and Linkara*

Thank you! I still think it's vaguely out of character for both of them, but I quite like how most of it came out.

Yeah, that's the reason that, while I like travel, I can handle hiking. I am lazy and spoiled.

*grinz* I do believe this is the first time a fanmix of mine has inspired something. *does a little dance*

So true! *huggles them both* Please don't kill so many people in the Vampire Hunter series as you did in the In Space series! (Though, that'd be pretty hard NOT to do, seeing as you killed ... everyone, in that.)

Thank you! I still think it's vaguely out of character for both of them, but I quite like how most of it came out.
No, it ... it made sense. Compared to their behavior in the rest of the series, maybe they were a little 'off' but they totally deserved this.

Hiking's not so bad. Once you get over the first leg of the hike, when your body says "what's all this, then?! You're a cave-dwelling fangirl, not a mountain climber! Stop! Go back! Sit down! Die!" and all that.
Once you get into a groove it's just ... long. It's pretty cool to be able to hike up a mountain with all your gear on your back. Not something I'd do all the time, but something I don't mind doing once in a great while.

Oh that was sweet and beautiful, two words you generally don't use about this verse. I could feel the closeness and intimacy. This is happy-making fic. *happy sigh*
